In the Beginning....

I grew up playing all sports except golf.  After playing softball and basketball in high school, I chose basketball full time in college at Palomar and University of California at San Diego.  If only I had known about golf then...
I started playing golf sparingly in 1991 and enrolled in Beginning Golf at Palomar College.  In 1994 at age 31 I entered my first amateur tournament as a 12 handicap and placed second. Three years (1997) later I won my first tournament at the Oceanside Women's City Amateur as a 3 handicap.  Over the next year I dropped to a +2.2 and participated in many of the nations top USGA amateur tournaments.  In July of 2002 I turned Professional and won my first event a month later

In 1995 I started caddying in PGA and Celebrity Tournaments.  My first event was the Mercedes at La Costa where I was fortunate to be paired with Ben Crenshaw.  He was so encouraging that I continued to caddie the entire West Coast Swing that year.  Since then, I have caddied for so many celebrities (Vince Gill, Smokey Robinson, Johnny Bench, Richard Karn, Ed Marinaro, Marcus Allen, Sterling Sharpe, Vince Coleman, D.L. Hughley, John O'Hurley) that the PGA Tour Caddies officially nicknamed me "Celeb Deb".  I love watching and meeting the best players in the world which has had a tremendous effect on my learning and course management skills.  Advice and encouragement from PGA and Celebrity friends was defintely the key to my quick success.

Sometimes I work for ABC, CBS, The Golf Channel, and NBC televised PGA TOUR golf broadcasts as a spotter along side of Judy Rankin, Jerry Fultz, Dottie Pepper, Roger Maltbie, Mark Rolfing, Ian Baker-Finch, Peter Costas, David Feherety, and Gary McCord.   Visiting great events like the Mercedes at Kapalua, British Open at St. Andrews, the World Championships at La Costa and the PGA West Coast Swing tournaments at Pebble Beach, Phoenix Open, Tuscon Open, Bob Hope Classic, and the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines.  I have caddied at the Champions Tour Pro Am events at Portland, Valencia, and Newport Beach.  By far, my favorite event each year is the Celebrity Tour Championship at Lake Tahoe's Edgwood GC in July.

GREATEST GOLF MOMENTS
- Lunch with Jack & Arnie after caddying for Gary Nicklaus in the Fred Meyer '98 at Oregon Golf Club
- Playing the 17th & 18th at St Andrews in the dark after midnight with Tony Lema's son during British Open week and not getting kicked off.   I made bogey/par with a driver, 4 iron, two balls, and a drunken tour caddie who stood in the fairway to listen for our balls to drop.
- Sitting next to Butch Harmon and Mark O'Meara on the steps of the famous Royal & Ancient Clubhouse watching Tiger win his first British Open and witnessing the infamous streaker running up to the green....priceless!
- Going to a hockey game with Fred Couples.
- Winning my first Professional Tournament
- Singing Karaoke with Jason Gore at the Bob Hope Classic
- Being selected for The Big Break III on The Golf Channel
- Walking on Hallowed Ground attending THE MASTERS 2006

BORN:  DEBRA DAHMER     June18, 1963
COLLEGE: BASKETBALL, Palomar College 1982-83  Basketball, All Conference Team
UC San Diego 1984-85   Social Psychology, Radio/TV

DOG: "FREDDIE"  (cause he's got a nice Italian bootie)

I play the guitar, piano, and trumpet (in high school band).  There came a time in high school where band geeks and jocks didn't mix so I made the switch and quit band.  Today those same band geeks are David Sanborn and Diana Krall......bad decision.  I still like to dabble in my love for music and like most DJ's I am still a "wannna be rock star".  Guess that's why I love to Karaoke.

In 1989 I launched THE MAIN EVENT, a mobile DJ company specializing in weddings and corporate event entertainment.  After a few years as a radio DJ/announcer at KKSM and KOWN and spinning records at various night clubs, I became the first female DJ in San Diego to own/operate a DJ company with THE MAIN EVENT.

In 2004 I started Direct Deal Properties.   Real Estate Investments & Property Management.

HOW I GREW UP WAS ESPECIALLY UNIQUE:

Dahmer's Oak Creek Boys Ranch was built, owned, and operated by my father Jack Dahmer in Valley Center, CA from 1969 - 1986.  It was a 23 acre ranch with two pastures, giant oak trees, and dozens of animals.  Two dormitories housed the 20 boys who came from Juvenile Hall where they lived and went to school full time. The rock dining lodge had pool and ping pong tables and two- 20ft dinner tables where everyone ate together.  It overlooked a large patio and giant oak tree near a wooden bridge built over our creek.  The ranch also had an Industrial Shop, horse barn, duck pond, animal pins, and even a bird aviary.

As a child being raised in that environment and later as an adult working as a group home counselor my special interest in neglected and abused children became very real.  I didn't realize as a child that most kids weren't as fortunate to have dad who was also a great example.  As an adult I now cherish the memories, and realize the influence that the ranch environment had on my athletic and adventurous lifestyle.  It was alot like being at camp full time and very normal for me to be doing any one of the following:
  • playing touch football in the horse pasture with the boys.....Fran Tarkenton & Larry Czonka were my heros!
  • working on my basketball skills against the boys
  • beating the boys on the pool or ping pong tables.......I was a shark then!
  • playing in the trees, rocks, or catching polywogs in the creek
  • riding the 300' cable pulley 30' high over the creek
  • playing on the rope swing under the giant oak tree
  • riding horses or talking to the dogs, cats, birds, ducks, rabbits, pigs, or sheep
  • grinding & buffing down the guns on my army men in the Industrial Arts Shop
  • riding, designing, and selling skateboards to the boys
  • riding my bike, motorcycle, or go-carts down the mile long dirt road
  • stealing lemonade and punch packets from the kitchen for my sweet tooth
  • sharing every meal with 30 or more people at two large tables in a lodge room

Dahmer's Ranch was a special place and we took annual trips with the boys to:

  • Disneyland
  • Colorado River to camp out and waterski, intertube, or float down the river
  • Hiking into the Havasupai Indian Reservation at the Grand Canyon
  • Camping, backpacking and fishing in the Sierra & Cuyamaca Mountains
  • San Diego's local beaches, museums, and Educational Day Trips
